frequently asked questions

Is Ashtanga Yoga best learned one-to-one in a gradual way?
Yes, exactly! The practice is meant to be learned one-to-one, step by step. We start with the basics, building a strong foundation, and gradually grow your practice as appropriate for you. There are variations for everyone.

What’s Mysore class?
Simply put, it’s like a private lesson in a group setting. You get one-to-one attention in this class. We’ll work together to develop your own personalized practice through a balanced approach. You’ll practice by following your breath, and move at your pace. This class is for beginners and experienced students alike.

Do you need to know the sequence to attend?
Definitely not! Mysore class is where new students are meant to learn the Ashtanga Yoga series. You’ll be guided gradually, step by step, pose by pose. It’s the Mysore way. Meeting you where you’re at, and building your practice based on your individual needs.

How long will my first Mysore class be?
Allow for 20-30 minutes for your first class. We will go over the basics of breathing and movement. I’ll guide you through a short foundational sequence of the Ashtanga Yoga practice, tailored for you.

Is there music during class?
Nope. Music is great, but by reducing external stimulation when practicing you’re more likely to focus inward and experience the mindful, meditative effects of yoga.

How often should I practice?
That’s up to you. It’s ideal to practice 5-6 days a week. If that doesn’t work for you right now, many benefits come from practicing even a few times a week. Do what you can, and enjoy your practice! :)

Can I practice during menstruation?
You can, though it’s recommended to rest the first three days. I honor this rest time in my own daily practice and find it nourishing and replenishing.
