Yoga: A Spiritual Path and Practice

Yoga isn’t only about getting a stronger core, and learning to stand on your head or hands. It’s also about calming your mind, opening your heart, and finding peace within you. In the big picture, yoga connects you to the truest part of yourself. At its root, it’s a spiritual practice.

I have been a seeker and still am, but I stopped asking the books and the stars. I started listening to the teaching of my soul. –rumi

Ishvara pranidhana (the fifth niyama of yoga’s eight limbs) means surrender to God. The path of yoga is designed to bring you closer to the spirit within you, and the Divine—no matter what your faith may be.

It is universal.

Everyone has a soul within, and everyone has a personal connection to God. The yogic path brings about an inner strength to better handle the uncertainties of life.

Tuning In
Yoga is a direct way to tune in to your spiritual center. Starting from the outer layer and moving to the subtle. Physical to spiritual. Yoga practice cleans out the body and mind, so that you’re more receptive; so you can see more clearly.

The path of yoga leads you to become the best version of yourself.

Yoga practice is preparation to be still and listen. It opens you to an inner calm and peace. Quiets the chatter of the mind. Yoga helps you look within and find the light that you are (perfect, whole, complete). I’ve heard it said—yoga is pointing the way for the soul, that is all.

“Yoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in. And this is the point of spiritual practice; to make us teachable; to open up our hearts and focus our awareness…be who we already are." —rolf gates
